Coyotes will be focus of Foxboro presentation
Top Headlines Foxboro Animal Control Officer Sue Thibedeau arranged for the talk after receiving reports that coyotes have been showing little fear of humans as they look for food in residential areas. The presentation by biologist Laura Hajduk of the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife is about "Coyote Biology, Behavior and Avoiding Conflicts," and will start at 7 p.m. in the McGinty Room of the Foxboro Public Safety Building on Chestnut Street. Hajduk, a biology specialist with the state's Westboro office, will explain ways to coexist with wild coyotes by eliminating possible food sources and by taking actions to discourage them from becoming too comfortable around humans. Thibedeau said recent calls from residents, especially those in the McKenzie Lane and Munroe Street neighborhoods, between North Street and the Neponset Reservoir, have reported that coyotes appear to be making themselves more at home and less fearful of humans. Norfolk Animal Control Officer Hilary Cohen encouraged people who have been calling her department to attend the presentation. Advance reservations for the free event are not necessary, but Thibedeau would like those planning to attend to contact her ahead of time at 508-384-2523 or foxcroft160@verizon.net so she can plan to have enough handouts available.
