Top Headlines Coffeehouse concerts in Mansfield, Franklin
Veteran Americana songwriter and performer Kate Campbell will be performing Saturday night, Nov. 7, at the Rose Garden Coffeehouse in Mansfield, and she'll be sharing the spotlight with an 16-year-old who made a big impression on national TV this summer.Mia Boostrom of Dighton made it all the way to the quarter-finals of NBC's hit show "America's Got Talent." Boostrom will be the youngest person to ever perform at the Rose Garden and will provide a short opening set to start the evening. Campbell, a daughter of the American South, is a storyteller who has addressed racial tensions head-on throughout her recording career. Author Gene Cheek asked to her write a song for the audio release of his powerful Jim Crow era autobiography, "The Color of Love," and it's included on her 12th and latest CD, "Save the Day." Also on the album are "Looking for Jesus," sung with John Prine, and Nanci Griffith harmonizing on "Fordlandia," the story of industrial pioneer Henry Ford's failed attempt to build a tire factory in the Amazon. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $15 at the door and $13 tickets (plus service fee) if ordered online at www.rosegardenfolk.com. Rose Garden concerts are held in The Congregational Church, 17 West St., Mansfield Circle of Friends Pat Wictor and Toby Walker bring their "Saints & Sinners: Blues at the Crossroads" show to the Circle of Friends Coffeehouse this Saturday night, Nov. 7. Steeped in American roots music, Wictor is a contemporary songwriter and interpreter drawing on the rural country, gospel, and blues traditions. Walker is an accomplished fingerstyle guitarist adept at blues, rags and country picking. He is also a singer and songwriter who draws inspiration from traditional and contemporary music.
