Seized drugs linked to heist Mansfield theft

Huge cache came from Mansfield warehouse theft
MANSFIELD - Police in Nashua, N.H., have seized more than 300,000 prescription pills, many of which were stolen from a warehouse in the Cabot Industrial Park in November 2006 - one of the Attleboro area's largest heists - and arrested two suspects on drug possession and related charges.

The drugs, mostly anti-anxiety and pain pills, are worth more than $2 million, and the bust may be the largest ever made in New England, authorities said.

Of that cache, about one-third are believed to be pills stolen in the unsolved burglary of the AmerisourceBergen warehouse in Mansfield.

The pills were linked to the burglary after information about the seizure was issued to law enforcement agencies.

Mansfield police contacted Nashua detectives and linked the pills using lot numbers, authorities said. No one has been charged with the warehouse burglary in which thieves disabled the alarm system and entered the building by cutting a hole in the roof.

In Nashua, the cache of pills were found during the investigation of a man who died Oct. 27 of a heart attack, the Nashua Telegram reported on its Web site.

Earlier this week, Nashua police detectives arrested Tam Mitchell, 32, the owner of the home where the man died, and his girlfriend, Cora White, 23, according to the newspaper.

Mitchell was charged with possession of a controlled drug with intent to sell and falsifying physical evidence. White was charged with providing false information to police, the paper reported.

The exact cause of death of the victim, Andreas Antoniou, 38, who also lived at the house, has not been determined, but is not believed to be suspicious. Toxicology tests will determine whether drugs played a role in his death.

Police found the cache of pills in the attic of the home after executing a search warrant and conducting interviews.

Police don't believe Mitchell was involved in the burglary or that he had sold much of the stash of pills before his arrest, according to the paper.

The warehouse burglary remains under investigation by Mansfield police, Massachusetts State Police and the FBI. Assisting are the Londonderry, N.H., police

"It's an active investigation and we're still processing the evidence," Mansfield Detective Michael Ellsworth said Friday.

Ellsworth said Sean Murphy, charged in connection with the June 2008 jewelry and precious metals heist at E.A. Dion in Attleboro, and his associates, are still prime suspects in the drug burglary. Court papers filed by police in connection with the E.A. Dion theft said sources in the investigation linked Murphy to the AmerisourceBergen burglary.

Murphy and co-defendants are awaiting trial in New Bedford Superior Court for the jewelry and gold thefts and have pleaded innocent.
