Limits set for Van De Giesen vigil, funeral

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The town will impose temporary parking restrictions during the candlelight vigil and funeral service for Marine Capt. Kyle Van De Giesen on Thursday and Friday.

The candlelight vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Community Field. It will be moved indoors to the North Attleboro High School gym in case of rain.

Visitors will be able to enter Community Field through the main gate behind town hall, the gate behind Community School or Barrows Street and the gate from Bank Street, opposite Morse Street. The gate on Ralph Street will be closed to the public.

No parking will be allowed on Barrows Street or Ralph Street. The police department will restrict parking on Brandon Street to one side of the road.

Parking will be allowed at Community School, town hall and on other streets where there are no parking restrictions.
The public is asked not to park on private property unless permission is obtained from the owner.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. There will be overflow seating available in the lower church hall, which will have closed-circuit television, and there will be speakers outdoors for overflow unable to enter the church.

Handicapped-accessible parking is available in the parking lot immediately behind the Church off Tifft Street.

There is no public parking on Tifft Street and there will be limited parking on Park Street from Tifft Street to North Washington Street and on North Washington Street in the vicinity of the church.

Those attending the funeral can park in the parking lot on Park Street and on streets where there are no parking restrictions.

Anyone who does not plan to take part in the procession to the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne is asked to park on one of the side streets.

The public is asked not to park on private property without permission of the owner.
