Top Headlines Walter Herbert Baxter, 71 NORTH ATTLEBORO - Walter Herbert Baxter, 71, of Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 upon arrival to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro after having been stricken ill at his residence. He was the husband of Rosemary (Smith) Baxter to whom he was married on March 28, 1986. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 29, 1938, he was the son of the late William S. Baxter, Sr. and Marion L. (Vetterlein) Baxter. He was raised and educated in Boston and following graduation from high school matriculated at Northeastern University. Mr. Baxter was a veteran of the United States Air Force Reserves where he served as a medic. He was employed as a truck driver for Carpenter Tech in Mansfield for more than 27 years prior to his retirement in 1994. Since retiring, Mr. Baxter was a self-employed antique dealer. Mr. Baxter resided in North Attleboro for the past 28 years having previously resided in Randolph and the West Roxbury neighborhood of Boston. He attended Good News Bible Chapel in Attleboro. A collector of many things, he was a member of various antique associations and was a member of the Masonic Order in Randolph. His family will recall with love and laughter his ability to tell a joke, that of a great story teller and a wonderful man to his family. He enjoyed writing poetry and performing carpentry work. In addition to his wife of 23 years, he leaves two sons: Walter S. Baxter of Bradenton, Florida and Jordan Dunton Baxter, Sr. of Sarasota, Florida; two daughters: Dorothy Ann Grieve of North Attleboro and Prudence E. Baxter of Macias City, Florida; seven grandchildren: Anne Marie Rochelle Koczynski of Lewistown, Pennsylvania; Tuezdae Grieve of North Attleboro; Jordan D. Baxter, Jr. of Sarasota, Florida; Andrea F. Grieve of North Attleboro; Morgan Baxter of Sarasota, Florida; Crystal Grieve of North Attleboro and Jacob Baxter of Sarasota, Florida; two great grandchildren: Devon and Atara Koczynski both of Lewistown, Pennsylvania; his siblings: Herbert W. Baxter of Sylvania, Ohio; Geraldine M. Mulvey of Brockton; Alvina Baxter-Moran of Cummaquid; Susan D. Baxter-Joyce of Norfolk; William S. Baxter, Jr. of Mendon and Robert A. Baxter of North Attleboro; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was the father of the late Leota Baxter. (Szczybek) Hallahan, 56 of Birch St. Attleboro die Friday at Sturdy Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Stephen Hallahan. She was born in Philadelphia, PA, a daughter of Peter Szczybek of Red Hill Pennsylvania and the late Ethel Szczbek. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse, for over 10 years. Peggy has been an Attleboro resident for over 12 years coming from Plainville MA. And was a parishioner of Holy Ghost Church. She is survived by her husband and father. She was the sister of the late Janet Beck. Funeral services are private burial of her cremated remains will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery Bourne MA at a later date. Christine A. Morini, 91 MANSFIELD - Christine A. (Capone) Morini of Mansfield, died unexpectedly on Thursday October 29 at home. She was 91. Mrs. Morini was the beloved wife of the late Celestino A. Morini for 56 years. Born on June 2, 1918 in Norwood, she was the loving daughter of the late Raphael and Carmela Capone. She was raised and educated in Norwood; but lived the majority of her life in Mansfield. She dedicated herself to being a homemaker for her family and loved reading, sewing and cooking. Mrs. Morini was the loving mother to Doreen Willis and her husband Gary of Old Lyme, CT. She was the cherished grandmother to Tamara Kramer and her husband Robert of Lakeville, and treasured great-grandmother to Brooke and Zoe. She was the loving sister of Antonette Cipriani of Mansfield and the late Yolanda Pollara, Emily Ruggierio and Julia Gove. She was also survived by many nieces and nephews. Janet Hay, 95 CALISTOGA, Calif. - Janet Emma (Joachim) Hay, 95, died peacefully in her home that she shared with her friend, La Verne Oyarzo, for 26 years, on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009. She was the wife of the late Commander Harold Robert Hay, U.S. Navy, of Vallejo. She was born in Central Falls, R.I., on Sept. 21, 1914. She was the daughter of the late Alfred and Lillian (Lamothe) Joachim. She was the sister of the late Gertrude (Morse) Bentham, Gladys Krikorian, Dorothy (Clarke) Szewczykowski and Alfred Joachim; and sister-in-law with Jane Joachim of Attleboro, Mass., Marian (Hay) McInnis of Sacramento; aunt to Charles Clarke of Attleboro, Jacqueline Barney of Seekonk, Janis Wedmore of Weston, Mass., the late Lt. Commander Edward Morse, U.S. Navy, Barbara Grohs of Hawaii, Patricia Paiva of Lincoln, R.I. and Gary G. Joachim of Centennial, Colo., Edward Hay Jr. of Chico, Robert Hay of Benicia, Clair (Hay) Begelman of Boulder, Colo., Colin McInnis of Sacramento, Donald McInnis of Front Royal, Va., Mary Claire Miller of Sacramento, Katherine V. McCoy of Lynnwood, Wash., Norman McInnis of Glendale, Ariz., and Ean McInnis of San Mateo. She was a graduate of Pawtucket High School, Class of 1932, then attended business school from 1932 to 1934, worked as a cashier at the N.Y. Lace Store from 1934 to 1937, and worked as a secretary in the office of J.M. Ott in Pawtucket, R.I. from 1933 to 1943. She joined the U.S. Navy WAVES during World War II as a chief disbursing clerk and later as WAVE recruiter, 1943-1963. Her final rank was that of chief petty officer. Her naval experience took place at U.S.N.T.C. Sampson, N.Y., U.S. Naval Station, Pearl Harbor, T.H., U.S. Naval Receiving Station, Treasure Island, San Francisco, Cincnelm, London, England, U.S. Naval Receiving Station, Long Beach, and U.S. Naval Receiving Station, Albany, N.Y. While at the Treasure Island Naval Station, Janet met Dr. Hay, who was a podiatrist surgeon, who claimed "he held her foot before her hand." On May 13, 1954, Janet married Cmdr. Dr. Harold Hay at St. Vincent's Church, in Vallejo. They bought and built a new home in Walnut Creek. In 1977, they built a new home just outside of Calistoga. Dr. Hay died in 1980 and in 1983 Janet moved in with a friend, closer to the town of Calistoga, where she could meet new friends, as volunteering and socializing gave her great pleasure. She was a life member of the Sharpsteen Museum, Active Calistoga Barnraised and Tree Coalition volunteer, worked the SHARE program Alzheimer Respite, the Napa County Fair Association, the Catholic Women's Society, active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Calistoga, and member of the North Bay Patriots. Viewing took place at Morrison Funeral Home Monday, Oct. 26, with recitation of the rosary at 975 Vintage Ave., St. Helena, Calif.
