Obituaries were published for Marine Capt. Kyle Van De Giesen, 29, of Temecula, Calif., formerly of North Attleboro; Eloise Simpson, 90, of Attleboro; Frank Bryant Jr., 61 of Pawtucket; and Robert Goretti, 69, of Plainville.

Marine Capt. Kyle Van De Giesen, 29

NORTH ATTLEBORO - U.S. Marine Capt. Kyle Rolf Van De Giesen of Temecula, Calif., formerly of North Attleboro, was killed in action in Afghanistan on Oct. 26, 2009.

Kyle was born on April 14, 1980 in Ridgewood, N.J. Kyle was a 1998 graduate of North Attleboro High School. As quarterback of the football team, he led his team to a Super Bowl victory as a senior and was awarded the Hockomock League offensive MVP. He was also a Boston Globe and Boston Herald All Scholastic and a Sun Chronicle All Star. Kyle participated in the Children's Hospital Classic and was also awarded the MVP.

Kyle was a 2002 graduate of Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H., where he was quarterback of the football team, which was re-established after a 58-year hiatus. He received his bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice. After completing Officer's Candidate School in Quantico, Va., in the summers of 1999 and 2000, Kyle was commissioned as a second lieutenant, USMC in 2002. The ceremony was held at the Joseph W. Martin School, where Kyle attended grammar school.

Upon completion of the Officer Basic Course in Quantico and Flight School in Pensacola, Fla., Kyle graduated in 2004 with his Aviator wings and assignment to train as an AH-1W Super Cobra pilot. He was assigned to HMLA-169 at Camp Pendleton in California.

Kyle was deployed twice to Iraq and finally this past March to Afghanistan. Kyle was hand-selected to be a Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics School Squadron One (MAWTS-1) instructor, the Marine Corps' center for aviation excellence and tactical instruction, commencing June 2010.

For his service, he was awarded an individual action Air Medal with combat "V," for valor and the Air Medal Strike/Flight with numeral 12, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with two bronze stars, and the NATO International Security Assistance Forces - Afghanistan (ISAF) Medal.

Kyle leaves behind his wife Megan, his 18-month-old daughter Avery Grace, and a son due in November. He is also survived by his father, Calvin of Franklin, his mother Ruth Ann, his brothers Christian and Ryan, and his sister Caitlin, all of North Attleboro. Kyle is also survived by his maternal grandfather, Rolf Hellmich, of New Jersey, and numerous other loving relatives.

A candlelight vigil in Kyle's memory will be held on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Community Field in North Attleboro.

The community is invited to attend.

A funeral will be held on Friday, Nov. 6 at 9 a.m. at Saint Mary's Church, 14 Park St., North Attleboro. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Eloise Simpson, 90 ATTLEBORO - Eloise Simpson, 90, of George Street, Attleboro, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009 at the Golden Living Center of Attleboro.

She was born in Attleboro, a daughter of the late John M. and Mabel L. (Davis) Simpson.

She was a school teacher for the Newburyport school system for many years.

She has lived most of her life in Attleboro, was a member of the First Baptist Church, and she was a member of the National Retired Teachers Association.

She is survived by a sister, Marjorie Simpson of Attleboro.

She was the sister of the late Donald Simpson.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Stevens Corner Cemetery, Route 118, Rehoboth, Mass.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Frank Bryant Jr., 61

PAWTUCKET - Frank Bryant Jr., 61, of Dickens Street, Pawtucket, was stricken at home on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, and transported by the Attleboro Fire Department to Sturdy Memorial Hospital, where he died.

He was the son of the late Frank Bryant Sr. and Barbara (Saulnier) Bryant, and was born in Norwood, Mass.

Frank and his former wife, Joyce (Hedderig) Bryant of Plainfield, Conn., were the loving parents of two daughters, Lisa Proulx (and husband Russell) of South Attleboro, and Jody Cadieux (and husband Ken) of Pawtucket, and of one son, Shawn (and wife Carrie) a member of the United States Marine Corps stationed in Jacksonville, N.C. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Amanda, Austin, Kenny and Jonathan; one brother, Walter Bryant of Holbrook, Mass., and one sister, Barbara-Gail Bryant of Dedham, Mass.

Frank was a mechanic for 40 years who always found time to help others, doing repairs of any kind. He was also a delivery man of Sun Chronicle newspapers.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. in the Darlington Mortuary of L. Heroux and Son, 1042 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, R.I.

Visitation hours in the funeral home will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham, Mass.

Robert Goretti, 69

PLAINVILLE - Robert Henry Goretti, 69, of Messenger Street, Plainville and of Westport; formerly of Natalie Drive, Attleboro; died unexpectedly Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He was the husband of the late Noreen A. (Battista) Goretti, who died on Nov. 29, 1987.

Born in Worcester, Mass. on Aug. 31, 1940, he was the son of the late Henry Goretti and Mario and Theresa (Pacevicz) Baratta of Brewster. He was a 1958 graduate of Wachusett Regional High School and earned his degree in engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1962.

Mr. Goretti started his career as an engineer at Texas Instruments in Attleboro, where he was employed for several years prior to working as an operations manager and sales executive in the jewelry industry for many years prior to his retirement.

A resident of Plainville since 2006, Mr. Goretti resided in the City of Attleboro from the time of his marriage in 1962 until moving to Plainville.

He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Attleboro.

An ardent sports enthusiast, Mr. Goretti enjoyed billiards, golf, baseball and football.

Time spent at his home in Westport and traveling were among his favorite pastimes.

His family will recall with love and fondness a devoted grandfather and a man who was most helpful and caring for family members and friends.

In addition to leaving his parents, Mr. Goretti was the father of Susan Baltrus of Wellesley; "Papa" of Lauren Baltrus, Sam Baltrus and Jillian Baltrus, all of Wellesley, and Michael Goretti of Stockbridge; brother of Cynthia "Cindy" Baratta of Charlestown and Dona Baratta of Yarmouthport; and was the uncle of three nieces: Alex Flatley of Charlestown, Cala Flatley of Charlestown and Maya Brady of Ludlow; and uncle of a nephew, Alex Brady of Ludlow.

He was the father of the late Stephen M. Goretti, who died on Sept. 27, 2001.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, Nov. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Ave. (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, 3/4 mile on left), Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.

A children's room will be available during visitation.

Burial will follow in the family plot at St. John's Cemetery, West Street, Attleboro.

Following cemetery services, an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments in the Hospitality Center of St. John the Evangelist Church.
