Plainville seniors can get books delivered
Top Headlines Senior citizens in town may sign up for library outreach services. The program, coordinated by the Plainville Public Library and the Plainville Senior Center, brings large-type and regular books and books on tape or CD to homebound persons or seniors who only have transportation to the senior center. Items can be delivered to homes or the senior center. Registration forms are available at the Plainville Public Library or the Plainville Senior Center or online at http://www.plainvillepubliclibrary.org/outreach.htm. Student named to post Elizabeth Masison, the daughter of Ann and James Masison of Plainville, was named a resident assistant for the Office of Student Life at St. Michael's College for the 2009-2010 academic year. Masison is a sophomore, history and Spanish double major at the liberal arts Catholic college in Burlington, Vt. Masison graduated from Bishop Feehan High School. Also at the library ... It is the last call for themed baskets to be donated to the Annual Friends of the Plainville Public Library Holiday Silent Auction. Baskets are due to the library by Thursday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. Individuals and business are welcome to donate. The bidding will begin on Monday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. and continue through Nov. 30 at 8 p.m. High bids can be followed on plainvillepubliclibrary.org/friends.html. Check out martial arts festival New England Korean Taekwondo Association and Mu Han Martial Arts are sponsoring a martial arts festival, personal competition in Plainville at the Jackson School, 68 Messenger St. from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14. There will be three schools attending, but it is a private event for participation. Schools from Attleboro, Franklin and Danvers will participate. The public may attend at 10:30 for free. Police campaign under way The Plainville Police Association is preparing for its holiday concert, which is scheduled for Jan. 9 at the Mansfield Holiday Inn. The concert will include a beach party with tropical fruits and appetizers along with the local Beach Boys tribute band The Driftwoods. The proceeds will help support scholarship funds, along with the youth and charitable activities the association sponsors throughout the year. The association's drive will end the first week of November. During the drive, a local telemarketing firm will be calling area residents seeking support. Church fair Friday, Saturday Plainville United Methodist Church will hold its annual country fair from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 at the church, 16 East Bacon St. Homemade pies and items, baked goods, candy, attic items, books, collectibles, antiques, and jewelry will be for sale, and there will be a silent auction. Angelcat Holiday Craft Fair is Nov. 7 Angelcat Haven Feline Rescue will hold its 3rd Annual Holiday Craft Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the North Attleboro Elks Lodge, 52 Bulfinch St. Admission is a minimum $1 donation; children younger than 12 get in free. Along with craft items, there will be baked goods, food, refreshments and raffles. Vendors and crafters include jewelry makers, scrap bookers, Tastefully Simple, The Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, Mia Bella Candles, and others. All proceeds go directly to cover medical expenses for cats and kittens. Due to the poor economy and foreclosures, Angelcat faces the challenge of helping more cats than usual with medical attention and finding permanent loving homes. (PAL) will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8 at the PAL Clubhouse located on Everett Skinner Road. The agenda includes elections for the board of directors, review of the annual financial report, bylaw amendments and other business. Check out St. Martha's Fair St. Martha's Parish is holding its annual holiday fair - its major fundraiser of the year for programs, Friday, Nov. 13 and Saturday, Nov. 14, and is looking for donations. The fair offers a basket raffle, home-baked goods, handmade items, a white elephant table, and full-service kitchen. Donations in the form of gift certificates, money, food and merchandise for the raffles are being sought. Donations will be recognized on basket labels and other locations, including the church bulletin and the church's Web site, StMarthaschurch.org. Volleyball, hoop offered Plainville Park Department programs for the fall include: Adult coed volleyball - The program runs through Dec. 23 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wood School gym on Messenger Street. The cost is $65 for the 13-week program or $6 per night. Men's Over-30 basketball - The program will be offered on Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Jackson School gym on Messenger Street.
