FOOTBALL: AHS rumbles past Dartmouth

ATTLEBORO - Matty Campbell had 111 yards rushing and two touchdowns as the Attleboro High football team picked up its first Old Colony League victory of the season Friday night, 26-7 over Dartmouth.

Surprisingly, the Blue Bombardiers actually trailed in this one, 7-6 in the opening minutes of the second quarter. This to a graduation-racked Dartmouth (0-4, 1-8) team which has been shut out three times this season and now lost five in a row. However, that didn't last long as J.J. Jolaoso's 7-yard TD run with three minutes to go before the half to put AHS up for good at 14-7.

For the game, Attleboro piled up 267 yards rushing, Campbell with his yards on 10 carries. Jolaoso had 59 yards rushing on 11 carries and Tim Reading also had 51 yards on nine carries. Quarterback Nate Robitaille had 72 yards passing and all four of his completions were for first downs.

Campbell opened the scoring with a 16-yard TD run in the first but the conversion was no good. Dartmouth QB Mike Grandfield scored on a 5-yard run on the Indians' first possession of the second quarter.

In the second half, Reading scored just four plays in, a 13-yard run, that set up by a 39-yard run by Campbell. On Attleboro's next possession, the Bombardiers marched 75 yards on 13 plays, Campbell with a 5-yard run to cap the scoring. Defensively, Lucas Parker had a sack for Attleboro, which improved to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference

Bishop Feehan 27, Durfee 6

FALL RIVER - Tommy Romero threw a pair of touchdown passes and the Shamrock defense controlled the Hilltoppers for a non-league victory.

The Shamrocks used two big plays in the first quarter to jump out to a 12-0 lead. Romero's first scoring toss covered 29 yards to Mike Albert. The second TD was set up by Josh Agostini's 54-yard run down the the Durfee 2-yard line, from there Kevin Boland finished off the drive.

Agostini, who had a team-high 74 of Feehan's 191 yards on the ground, made it 20-0 at halftime with a two-yard TD with 1:37 left in the quarter. Romero's 19-yard TD pass to Nick Cataldo put Feehan up by 27 before Durfee added a garbage-time score with just under three minutes left in the game. Romero finished 7-for-10 passing for 125 yards.

The Shamrocks (5-2) are at Somerset for a key Eastern Athletic Conference showdown next Saturday. The winner pretty much clinching the conference crown and a playoff berth.

King Philip 35, Stoughton 0

WRENTHAM - Bouncing back from last week's loss to Mansfield, the Warriors took out their frustrations on the visiting Black Knights, rushing for almost 300 yards in a dominant Hockomock League victory.

Chris Ruffin led the KP charge with 109 yards rushing and one touchdown, while Chris Cacciola added 75 yards on eight carries and notched two TDs.

KP came out and pounded the ball down Stoughton's throat, the first two drives exclusively on the ground. The first drive ended with a two-yard plunge by QB Brandon Howard at 4:43 of the first quarter, the second on a 25-yard sprint by Ruffin 1:27 into the second quarter. The Warriors, who have racked up 269 points in nine games, made it 28-0 at halftime as fullback Jim Johnson (6-48 yards) ripped off a 21-yard scoring run and Cacciola scored on a 39-yard jaunt. In the second half, KP put the game away as Cacciola finished off a drive with a 12-yard TD run. Nick Muscatiello was perfect on PAT kicks, sending all five through the uprights.

The KP defense was just as merciless, sacking the Stoughton QB eight times while holding the Knights to 73 total yards (10 in the first half) and three first downs. KP has allowed just 73 total points. Dan Dusseault and Nick Calvano each had two sacks in the game.

Despite last week's loss, the Warriors (7-2 overall) are still in the running for the Hockomock title with a 5-1 league mark. KP had another tough game at Foxboro next Friday night and should they prevail in that one, a potential showdown with front-running Franklin on Thanksgiving Day.

Wareham 16, Seekonk 6

SEEKONK - Shut out through three quarters, the Warriors couldn't muster much in the way of offense as they dropped the South Coast Conference contest.

It didn't help that Seekonk lost one of its key cogs in the running game as Matt Lockwood went down with a first-quarter ankle injury and didn't return. The Warriors did show signs of life in the fourth when quarterback Jake Lyman hit Joe Teixeira for a 62-yard touchdown, but an excessive celebration penalty pushed the conversion attempt way back and kept Wareham's lead at 8-6.

The Vikings sealed things with another late touchdown, Patrick Murphy with a 33-yard TD run and a 2-point conversion from E.J. Bennett. Wareham's first touchdown came in the third quarter, a 1-yard run by Jon Lydon and another conversion run by Bennett.

Despite the loss, Seekonk had standout defensive efforts from Mike Braunsdorf, Zach Goodheart, Ari Kappatos and Rob Fontaine, while Lyman also had an interception for the Warriors, who dipped to 5-2 in the SCC and 5-4 overall.

Seekonk is at Nauset next week.

Blue Hills 12, Tri-County 8

CANTON - The Cougars drove to Canton, had the opening kickoff returned against them 70 yards for a touchdown and it was pretty much downhill from there as they dropped the non-leaguer.

"We just couldn't execute, too many mistakes for us," said T-C coach Dan MacLean, whose team is 6-3 overall but still in first place in the Mayflower at 5-1.

The Cougars trailed 12-0 at the half and couldn't get on the board until 1:30 left in the game when Randy Hardy hit Tyler Kaufman for a 10-yard touchdown. Hardy hit Chad Todesco with the 2-point conversion, but the ensuing onside kick was covered by Blue Hills.

"We just have to get back to basics and get ready for a big game against Holbrook next week," added MacLean, whose team has now scored eight points or less in the last three games after averaging over 25 points per game during a five-game winning streak.
