Benedict W. Guigas

NORTON - SPC Benedict W. Guigas, U.S Army has recently been deployed to Iraq. He is a 2003 graduate of Norton High School and a 2008 graduate of the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. He is the son of Colleen E. Ryan of Norton and W. Frederick Guigas of Wareham.

In March, Guigas completed his training as a Cavalry Scout at Fort Knox, Ky. Presented at the Iron Troop 19D OSUT Graduation Ceremony, Guigas received the George S. Patton Leadership Award. The Patton Award is presented to the soldier of each training cycle who best expresses the qualities of leadership, honor, initiative, loyalty, high moral, courage, positive attitude, and consistent competitive spirit which inspires peers and cadre. During his deployment in Iraq Guigas is assigned with the HHT Third Brigade Combat Team/First US Cavalry.

Krystal M. Sulham

ATTLEBORO - Navy Seaman Recruit Krystal M. Sulham, daughter of Suzanne Y. Burns, of Attleboro, and Tyson G. Sulham, of Attleboro, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Sulham is a 2007 graduate of Attleboro High School.

During the eight-week program, Sulham completed a variety of training that included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

The capstone event of boot camp is Battle Stations, which gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet.

Jennifer M. Richard

ATTLEBORO - Air Force 1st Lt. Jennifer M. Richard has arrived for duty at Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras, to serve as a member of Joint Task Force-Bravo (JTF-B). She is the daughter of Cindy and Dan Richard of Newport Avenue in South Attleboro, and her brother, Michael Richard, lives on Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas.

Richard earned a bachelor's degree in 2007 from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., and earned a master's degree in 2009 from the University of San Diego.

She is a public affairs director with two years of military service.

The task force is comprised of almost 600 U.S. military members and more than 650 U.S. and Honduran civilians who work in six different area units: the Joint Staff, the Army Forces, Air Force Forces, Joint Security Forces, the Medical Element, and the 1st Battalion, 228th Aviation Regiment, a helicopter unit.

Timothy J. Strong

TAUNTON - Army National Guard Pvt. Timothy J. Strong has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. He is the son of Kevin P. Strong of Meadow Street in Taunton. Strong is a 2000 graduate of Middleboro High School.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics.
