Wrentham man acquitted in tax case

WRENTHAM - A local man has been acquitted by a federal jury of filing false tax returns and failing to report rental income from property he and his wife owned.

Steven P. Kenney, 60, of 375 Bennett St., was found innocent Monday on all four counts after a week long trial in U.S. District Court in Boston.

Kenney said Tuesday he was "ecstatic" by the verdict, which he said was reached after about two hours of deliberation.

"It's been a long year," Kenney said.

Kenney was charged in September of last year and had to give up his passport while the case was pending, preventing him from visiting his son in Ireland. If he had been convicted, Kenney could have faced up to three years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine on each count.
