Mansfield to serve up T-Day dinner




Beginning at 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, the Friends of the Elderly will serve dinner for area residents of all ages at the Orthodox Congregational Church at 17 West St., Mansfield, for those residents who have made reservations. Transportation and delivery of meals are also available.

Toys for Tots under way

The Mansfield Rotary Club's 17th annual Toys for Tots drive is under way as the group and the drive's sponsors are hard at work collecting toys for the area's disadvantaged children. Half of the toys collected are picked up by the local Marines, and the other half is delivered to Mansfield's West Side Benevolent Circle and the Norton Fire Department's Christmas Is for Kids program for distribution to local families and their children.

Toys can be dropped off at the drive's major sponsor, Mansfield Jeep Chrysler, and at Mansfield Municipal Airport, Mansfield Bank, North Easton Savings Bank, Mansfield Town Hall, Roche Brothers Supermarket, Mansfield Stop & Shop, Mansfield Post Office, The Old Country Store, Holiday Inn Mansfield, HarborOne Credit Union and the Mansfield Public Library. All toys should be new, unwrapped and dropped off by Monday, Dec. 14. Monetary donations can be mailed to the Rotary Club of Mansfield at P.O. Box 251, Mansfield, MA, 02048. St. Mary's Catholic School will be hosting its Fifth Annual Christmas Shopping Extravaganza tonight (Nov. 19) from 6 to 9. The evening will consist of complimentary baked goods and Dunkin' Donuts coffee for shoppers to enjoy while shopping and visiting with friends. All are welcome to attend, and admission to the event is $2 per person. The event will be in the gymnasium of the school, which is located behind St. Mary's Catholic Church at 330 Pratt St.

Preparing for House Tour

The Mansfield Women of Today are preparing for their 17th annual House Tour and Tea. There are five homes on the tour this year. The Holiday House Tour will be held on Sunday, Dec. 6 from 1 to 5 p.m. Tickets will be on sale at the Mansfield Bank for $25 each. Fresh pastries, desserts, coffee and tea will be served at the Historical Society house on Rumford Avenue and a raffle will be held with items donated by local artisans.

Scouts to sell trees

In what has become a yearly occurrence for more than five decades, the town's Boy Scout Troop 17 will again be holding its Christmas tree sale on West Street, next to the police department. Tree sizes will range from 3-foot table tops to 12-foot premium sheared trees. Prices will range from $15 to $75. Opening on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 3 p.m., and remaining open daily through Sunday, Dec. 20.

Daily hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 5 to 9 p.m. Fridays and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Delivery will be available for a minimal fee. All proceeds from the troop's tree sales go to supporting the troop's yearly program.

Take wreath stroll

For the third time in as many years, The Village at Willow Crossing is hosting a wreath stroll on Dec. 3 from 4 to 6 p.m. The event will feature a silent auction of wreaths decorated by local sponsors, carolers and refreshments. The proceeds from the growing event will go to the Mansfield Adult Day Health Center, which recently opened on Branch Street with programs for frail elders and disabled adults. Club holds bazaar

The Attleboro-Taunton Area Mothers of Twins Club is seeking crafters for a holiday craft bazaar for Saturday, Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Orthodox Congregational Church on West St. in Mansfield.

The event is open to vendors that make homemade crafts/items only.

The Attleboro-Taunton Area Mothers of Twins Club is a club for anyone expecting or already has twins or multiples. Meetings are held monthly, September thru June, with additional play dates, events, and fathers of twins gatherings throughout the year.
