Obituaries were published for Carol Anne (Jones) Smith, 71, of Norfolk, and Joyce G. Lester, of Burr Ridge, Ill.

Carol Anne (Jones) Smith, 71

NORFOLK - Carol Anne (Jones) Smith, 71, of Norfolk died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009 at home.

Carol met her husband, the late William R. Smith. while working at IBM in New York City, and was married to him for 48 years until his death in 2005.

Born in Manhattan, N.Y. on June 4, 1938, the daughter of the late Harry and Clara (Oldham) Jones, Mrs. Smith had lived in Norfolk for the past 40 years. Mrs. Smith had been the assistant to the choir director at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church for several years.

A talented figure skater, she loved to skate and had also taught figure skating.

Mrs. Smith was deeply involved with her church. One of her many talents was gardening, and she assisted in the landscaping of the church property.

She enjoyed traveling, throughout the United States and Europe, cooking, baking and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her son, Gary Smith of Norfolk; and her daughter, Pam Smith Hassan of San Diego, Calif.

She is also survived by her grandchildren: Eric, Emma, Dylan and Carson.

A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 24 Berwick St., Norwood.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 24 Berwick St., Norwood, MA 02062.

BURR RIDGE, ILL. - Joyce G. Lester (nee: Gillespie), whose vibrant personality, delightful stories and dedication to family and friends, became at rest Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009. She will be truly missed.

Loving wife of Frank D. Lester for 47 years.

Devoted mother of Heather (Keith) Murphy, Bill Lester and Kim (Dick) Hawks. Cherished grandmother of Ryan, Kevin, Brendan, Cullen, Aubrey, Shelby, Madison, and Sydney. Dear sister of the late Dorothy and William Gillespie. Fond aunt of Gigi and Lee.

Visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 1 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Adolf Funeral Home 7000 South Madison St., Willowbrook. Visitation will be held on Monday, Nov. 2 for one hour prior to 10 a.m. services at Redeemer Lutheran Church, First and Blaine Street, Hinsdale, Ill. Services will conclude at the church.

Private family interment will be at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, N.Y.
