Join in events with Seekonk seniors
SEEKONK - Seekonk Human Services, 320 Pleasant St., is offering the following programs. Call 508-336-8772 for more information or to register.
Beltone New England will hold free hearing screenings on Nov. 18 from 9 a.m. to noon at the center.
Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter will host a workshop on combating elder abuse at the center on Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. Lunch will be served for $2 and pre-registration at the center is encouraged.
A Christmas party with entertainer Greg Curtis will be held on Dec. 9 at 10 a.m. Lunch will be served after the show at a cost of $2. Call for reservations.
A free cardiac prevention clinic will be held at the center on Nov. 16 from 9 a.m. to noon.Every Monday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Selectman Francis Cavaco will be at town hall in the selectman's meeting room. Residents are invited to discuss concerns or issues with him. For a ride, call him at 508-761-7650.
There is a dedicated group of ladies who knit for the homebound elderly of Seekonk Mondays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Baby items, such as hats, mittens, and sweaters are donated to those in need.
Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders Counselors (SHINE) are available to help with Medicare and all health insurance needs. Health insurance is mandatory in Massachusetts. Prescription advantage has open enrollment until further notice, and food stamp applications are available. Call 508-336-8772.
Trips include: Grand Amish Christmas, Dec. 1-3, $299 per person double, $295 for triples or $389 for single; Newport Playhouse and cabaret restaurant, Dec. 3; $46.
St. Mary's Senior Saints plans Christmas party
SEEKONK - St. Mary's Senior Saints of Seekonk announce the following events and trips. For further information, contact Yvonne Wordell at 508-252-2010.
The group's Christmas party at the Venus de Milo in Swansea will be held on Dec. 9 at 11:30 a.m. Entertainment will be provided by Michael Dutra with a sing-a-long with Just Juli. Chicken Francais, minestrone soup, and dessert and coffee will be served. Scrod dinners are available, if ordered in advance. There will also be a split the pot and gift basket raffle.
A brown bag luncheon will be held on Jan 5, 2010. Bring your own lunch, and cards and bingo will follow.
A yankee-style pot roast lunch will be held on Feb. 2, 2010 at noon. There will be games and entertainment provided.

Seekonk church plans trip to LancasterSEEKONK - Memorial Baptist Church of Seekonk will travel to the Sight and Sound Millennium Theatre in Lancaster, Pa., for the production of "Joseph" April 16-18. The trip is open to anyone. For more information, call 508-285-3017.
