Car hits woman in SA

Attleboro firefighters place an unidentified woman in an ambulance at the scene of an accident on Route 1 Friday.

ATTLEBORO - A pedestrian escaped serious injury Friday when she was struck by a car that spun out of control on Route 1 and jumped a curb near McDonald's restaurant in South Attleboro.

The victim, reported to be a 33-year-old woman, complained of neck and back pain and was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital. Her name was not immediately available.

The driver of the car, Roy Thomas, 75, of 133 Bacon St. in South Attleboro, was not injured, police said.

The accident occurred around 11:30 a.m.

Investigating officer, Karl Williams, said Thomas mistakenly hit the accelerator on his vehicle as he was leaving McDonald's and turning into Route 1.
The car fishtailed, spun across the highway and struck the curb on the southbound side, Williams said.

The car then struck the woman walking on the sidewalk and a shed for sale at Shed and Wood Products, before coming to rest facing north in the southbound lane, police said.

Following that, there was another minor crash south of the accident outside McDonald's, police said.
