REHOBOTH - The Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High volleyball team could not have responded to the challenge any better, but still lost a heart-stopper of an opening round match in the MIAA Division 2-South Tournament, falling 3-1 to Somerset High Saturday.
D-R won the opening game 25-19, but 10th-seeded Somerset (11-7) prevailed in the next three games, 26-24, 25-23 and 27-25.
"We expected it to be that close, it was back and forth the whole way through," said D-R interim coach Jon Pacheco.
The seventh-seeded Falcons (14-7) received 14 assists from Sadie Gosselin, 10 kills from Nikki Hanson along with seven kills and six blocks from Robyn Catarius.
"The kids played their hearts out," added Pacheco.
