Obituaries were published Wednesday, Oct. 28 for: Frank Quartarone, 86, of Foxboro; Harris Akell of Mansfield; and Robert Carlson, 76, of Mansfield.

Frank A. Quartarone, 86

FOXBORO - Frank A. Quartarone, 86, died suddenly on Friday, Oct. 23, 2009. He was the son of the late John and Sarah (Bruno) Quartarone.

Frank was born on April 22, 1923 in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston. He graduated from high school in 1941.

Frank proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Frank has been a resident of Foxboro since 1955. He married his wife Julie (Police) on July 27, 1947 at St. Mary's Church in Dedham.

Frank worked for over 28 years at the Foxboro Company until his retirement in 1982 as a project manager.

Frank was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Foxboro, where he was an usher, lector and former director of the St. Mary's CCD program.

He was an active member of Foxboro Knights of Columbus Council 6063 for over 25 years.

He was the director of the semi-annual K of C blood drive and manager and active member of the K of C Farmstand for the past 20 years. He was also the coordinator of the annual Foxboro Company dinner.

Frank began Cub Scout Troop 70 and Boy Scout Troop 70, both in Foxboro. He was a former Boy Scout institutional representative for all Foxboro Boy Scout troops.

Frank was the beloved husband of Julie (Police) Quartarone. Loving father of John E. Quartarone and his wife Stacey of Carlsbad, Calif., Frank A. Quartarone Jr. and his wife Nancy of Natick, and Christine E. Hurley and her husband Lloyd of Walpole. Devoted grandfather of Frank A. Quartarone III, Christopher Quartarone, Haley Quartarone, Chase Quartarone and Angela Rose Hurley. Also survived by over a dozen nieces and nephews. Brother of the late Guy and Grace Quartarone.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, Oct. 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South St, Foxboro.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Oct. 30 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Carpenter Street, Foxboro. Interment will follow with military honors at St. Mary's Cemetery, Foxboro.

Harris Akell

MANSFIELD - Harris Akell of Mansfield, MA died at his residence on Oct. 27, 2009.

Mr. Akell was born in Boston, MA.

Beloved husband of Mary Akell (Cohen) and the late Sue-Sara (Woldman). Devoted father of Marcie Akell of Needham, Murray Akell of Needham, James Akell and his wife Susan of Attleboro, Cyndie Akell of Tampa, FL, Gregory A. Cohen and his wife Chastity of Kansas and Alan R. Cohen and his wife Amy of Louisiana. Dear grandfather of 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at Lindwood Memorial Park, 497 North St., Randolph on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m.

Following the service, family and friends are invited to his late residence until Thursday at 8 p.m. and continuing on Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. at the home of Marcie Akell.

Robert W. Carlson, 76

MANSFIELD - Robert W. Carlson, 76, of Mansfield, formerly of Sharon, passed away on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009 at Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood after a hard-fought battle from complications of multiple sclerosis. He was the beloved husband of Margaret (Pardy) Carlson, whom he married on Jan. 22, 1956.

Born in Boston, MA on Nov. 4, 1932, he was a son of the late Walter T. Sr., and Dorothy (Dexter) Carlson.

Bob grew up in the Hyde Park section of Boston, was educated in the Boston schools and was a graduate of Hyde Park High School.

After high school, he entered the United States Army, proudly serving his country during the Korean Conflict.

After serving for three years, he was honorably discharged on Dec. 19, 1955 as an intelligence expert.

After serving his country, he married his wife Margaret and furthered his schooling by graduating from Boston University, where he received his bachelor's degree in education, and later attended Bridgewater State College to earn his master's degree in education.

Mr. Carlson was a retired president of the Sharon Credit Union in Sharon, an institute he worked at for 25 years prior to retiring in 2000.

He previously taught in the Sharon school system as a social studies teacher.

He began teaching at the Wilbur School and later at the junior high school.

Bob also helped students receive their driver's license by teaching driver's education.

Active in Sharon town affairs, Bob was instrumental in the creation of the Recreation Department.

He was a director and past chairman of the Massachusetts Share Insurance Corporation. When younger, his family was active members of St. John's Episcopal Church in Sharon, where Mr. Carlson served as a youth adviser to the Young Peoples Fellowship.

Bob was quite a history buff and enjoyed staying active at the Sharon Historical Society and tracing his genealogy.

His other interests included gardening, and he relished the many wonderful times spent with family and friends at Manomet Beach in Plymouth.

A resident of Mansfield for the past 17 years, he had previously made his home in Sharon for 30 years.

In addition to his beloved wife of over 53 years he is survived by his devoted children, Robert W. Carlson Jr. and his wife Roni of Mansfield, James L. Carlson and his wife Elena of Foxboro, Bruce A. Carlson of Mansfield, Karen J. Carlson of Foxboro and Barry D. Carlson and his wife Nancy of Stoughton.

He was the brother of Walter T. Carlson Jr. of Raynham, John Carlson of Danvers, Alvah Carlson of Florida and the late Dorothy Lewis and Richard Carlson.

Also surviving are his cherished grandchildren, Christopher, James, Hiliary, Brian and Matthew Carlson; his aunt, Helen Cregg; and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday, Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. in St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 116 South St., Foxboro. Burial with military honors will follow at Rock Ridge Cemetery in Sharon.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, Oct. 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.

In lieu of flowers, Bob's family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Robert W. Carlson Scholarship Fund, c/o Sharon Credit Union, 30 Pond St., Sharon, MA 02067.
