ATTLEBORO - Officers Brian Kelley and John Hynes were parked in their cruisers at County Square late Sunday night when a sport utility vehicle came into the intersection, struck a curb and then a utility pole, before careening across County Street and stopping with a flat tire.
No one was injured, but the driver, William D. Miller, 62, of 40 Short St., Taunton, was arrested on drunken driving charges.
Miller pleaded innocent Monday and is free without bail.
Police allege Miller took a breath-alcohol test which registered 0.13 percent, which is above the 0.08 percent legal limit.
A passenger in the vehicle was placed in protective custody because of alleged intoxication. Miller is due back in court Dec. 7.
