Anthony and Marietta (Vanacore) Karpinski of North Attleboro celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on December 19. The couple married on that date in 1959 at St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Bloomfield, N.J., their hometown.
Three weeks after their wedding, Lt. and Mrs. Karpinski reported to Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento, Calif. For the next 20 years, while Lt. Karpinski was in the Strategic Air Command of the United States Air Force, Mrs. Karpinski raised their three children, Joseph, Scott and Lori. In addition to California, the couple lived in Florida, Texas, Idaho, Missouri, Kansas, Alabama, and Plattsburgh and Rome, N.Y.
After Lt. Karpinski retired from the USAF in 1978, the couple made their home in North Attleboro.
The Karpinskis received a special blessing from their pastor, Rev. Thomas Frechette, at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Attleboro Falls. Their family celebrated the event with their children and five grandchildren - Garrett, Karrah, Rachel, Jacob and Luke - at a favorite Boston restaurant.
