ATTLEBORO - Prosecutors are seeking a dangerousness hearing for a 59-year-old man accused of beating his girlfriend at her South Attleboro home and holding her against her will.
Richard Mahan, of Boston and formerly of South Attleboro, was ordered held in jail without bail Monday, pending a dangerousness hearing Friday in Attleboro District Court.
The 57-year-old woman suffered visible injuries in the alleged assault, which occurred Feb. 1, but she declined to be taken to a hospital.
Her adult children reported the incident to police the following day. Mahan denies assaulting the woman and looks forward to challenging the allegations in court, said his lawyer, Richard Silva Jr. of Fall River.
Judge Richard Savignano also issued a restraining order against Mahan at the woman's request.
Mahan faces charges of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon: boots; assault and battery; kidnapping and intimidating a witness.
