WRENTHAM - A defense lawyer said Monday authorities may have overreacted out of caution when they arrested her client on explosives charges and evacuated a Foxboro motel over the weekend.

Stephen A. Mudge, 41, was arrested at America's Best Value Inn on Route 1 Friday on outstanding warrants related to break-ins when police discovered the alleged explosives in a backpack in his room.
