MANSFIELD - Mansfield residents will again band together in an effort to spruce up their town.

The third annual Great American Cleanup of Mansfield has been scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon on May 1.

More than 500 volunteers scattered around town at last year's event, picking up trash from roadsides and parks and collecting 200 bags of recyclables.
St. Mary's School to mark Week

MANSFIELD - St. Mary's Catholic School will celebrated Catholic Schools Week, beginning Sunday, Jan. 31. One of the many activities planned for the week will be the annual open house for new and prospective students. Families are encouraged to visit the school to gather information and tour the facility. Open houses will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 2 and Thursday, Feb. 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

Families who are considering a Catholic education for their children are strongly encouraged to attend the open house. A variety of activities are scheduled including student participation in the Souper Bowl of Caring service project, a grass-roots campaign started by a small youth group in Alabama in an effort to stamp out hunger in America. For additional enrollment and application information on St. Mary's Catholic School visit www.stmarymansschool.org.

School spirit will be alive and well for four local schools in the coming week, but it won't be displayed by rooting for the best sports team.

The schools - Bishop Feehan High School and St. John's School, both of Attleboro, St. Mary's School of Mansfield and St. Mary-Sacred Heart School of North Attleboro - will be cheering for something that transcends even football.

The local schools are among 27 schools in the Fall River Diocese, which currently comprise 7,567 students, who will join in spirit with students from Catholic schools across the country to celebrate Catholic Schools Week 2010, from Jan. 31 to Feb. 6.
