NORTH ATTLEBORO - Police say an alleged drunken driver nearly struck a police cruiser and a car stopped by police on Route 1 for other traffic offenses over the weekend.
North woman faces DUI charge
Patrolman Robert Curran was at a traffic stop on Route 1 near North Plaza around 2 a.m. Saturday when a sport utility vehicle nearly struck the rear of his cruiser and then the car he had stopped, according to police.
Curran gave the driver of the car a verbal warning, according to police, and got in his cruiser to stop the SUV. The vehicle was stopped by Curran about a mile north at Route 1 and Elmwood Avenue, according to police.
Kara J. Brennan, 31, of 11 Reardon Field Lane, in North Attleboro, was arrested after a subsequent investigation, police said.
She pleaded innocent Monday in Attleboro District Court to driving under the influence of alcohol, driving to endanger, obstructing an emergency vehicle and a passing violation.
She is free without bail and is due back in court March 28.
City man faces 5th DUI charge
FOXBORO - An Attleboro man with a history of drunken driving offenses was arrested again over the weekend for allegedly driving intoxicated.
Richard Carnevali, 56, of 18 Oakhill Ave., in Attleboro, was arrested just after noon on School Street by Patrolman Patrick Morrison, Police Chief Edward O'Leary said.
Carnevali faces a fifth-offense drunken driving charge in Wrentham District Court in addition to charges of driving with a revoked license, O'Leary said.
In the past two weeks, local police have arrested a dozen drivers for allegedly driving drunk, O'Leary said.
