NORTH ATTLEBORO - After eight years at the helm of North Attleboro High School, Principal Robert Gay has announced he will retire at the end of the school year.
Gay's letter of resignation, which will be effective June 30, was officially accepted by the school committee on Thursday - but not before school committee member William Kummer asked him to reconsider. Gay declined to reconsider, saying it was time for him to retire. He thanked the school committee, his fellow administrators and high school staff for setting high standards and being supportive throughout his tenure. He also thanked parents and students as well, saying, "If it wasn't for the students, I would have been out of this profession years ago - seeing the students everyday, that's what I'll miss the most."
