NORTH ATTLEBORO - Election commission Chairman Kevin Poirier is expecting that only 8 percent of the town's voters will cast ballots in today's preliminary town election, a stark contrast to last month's special Senate election when nearly 60 percent of voters turned out.
The preliminary election will cost the town $10,000. If the prediction comes true, it will cost taxpayers as much as $10 per vote today to eliminate two candidates from the April 6 town election ballot.
"We had 1,087 voters in last year's preliminary election and 1,900 the year before," Poirier said. "Based on that, I think we'll have about 1,000 to 1,500 at the most, which is very, very sad.
