Former U.S. Sen. Scott Brown

Former Sen. Scott Brown is getting bipartisan support for his nomination by President Donald Trump as ambassador to New Zealand.

Even Brown’s former bitter political opponent, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, is backing him for the post.

She sent out a tweet Thursday afternoon congratulating Brown.

“You have my support & I’m sure you’ll make the people of MA proud,” she tweeted.

Warren, D-Mass., defeated Brown in 2012 in a nasty race.

He accused her of faking a native American ancestry and she accused him of being beholden to special interests.

Brown, a Republican, was a former selectman, state representative and state senator from Wrentham before his dramatic upset victory over then Attorney General Martha Coakley in 2010 for the late Ted Kennedy’s seat in the U.S. Senate.

Warren took his seat away two years later.

He then moved to New Hampshire, ran for Senate there, and lost again.

Brown held a series of political events at his Rye, New Hampshire home during the presidential primary last year and became one of the first prominent Republicans to endorse Trump.

A commentator on Fox News, he was rumored early on to be under consideration for a number of positions in the Trump administration.

Sue Blais, chairwoman of the Attleboro Republican City Committee, said she was excited for Brown, and believes he will do a great job.

She also said she had been hoping Brown would get a political appointment instead, such as a cabinet seat.

She said she thought secretary for veterans affairs would have been perfect for him.

State Rep. Betty Poirier, R-North Attleboro, said his nomination is a tremendous honor for Brown and a great opportunity.

Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito, a Republican, also tweeted her support of Brown and his wife Gail Huff, a former television reporter.

“Congratulations on becoming New Zealand Ambassador & wishing you and Gail much happiness in your new position!”

Brown is not ambassador yet. His nomination needs Senate confirmation.

His nomination has been rumored for weeks.

When reports first surfaced about the possible appointment as an ambassador, wise cracks appeared on Twitter calling Brown “Beefcake Wellington” because the capital of New Zealand is Wellington and Brown once posed nude for Cosmopolitan magazine as a young man.
