Jonathan Crocker Kennedy, 66, died on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, in Mashpee, with his devoted wife by his side. His death came after a six-year battle with ALS. During that time he continued to live a full and happy life.
He was the son of the late William and Marion Kennedy.
He had an unwavering faith in the Lord and was an active member of South Attleboro Assembly of God where he participated in all the choir performances. He loved to sing. In Easter plays, he made a wonderful shepherd or disciple with his tenor voice and signature beard. For all his years, he loved telling others of how the Lord blessed him.
Jon was an avid outdoorsman, hiking as much as he could. His goal was to hike all 48 of the 4,000 ft. mountain peaks in New Hampshire. He proudly hiked 40 before he was no longer physically able. He enjoyed biking, swimming at the Cape (even if it was raining), playing soccer, and sailing. He delighted in these all the more when his family joined him. Cape Cod was where his family saw him at his happiest. He made sure he got his feet in the sand every time he visited the beach (even if it meant his son-in-law carrying his wheelchair into it).
Jon worked as an electrical engineer at the former Foxboro Company (and all of its affiliates) for 40 years.
He received his master’s degree in computer science at Boston University while working full time and raising four children alongside his wife.
Jon is survived by a big and loving family, which includes: his beloved wife of 38 years, Cherylann Kennedy; his four children: Barry Kennedy and his wife Tina of Warwick, R.I.; Amy Wills and her husband Devyn of Austin, TX; Shauna McMillan and her husband Kevin of Sewickley, PA; Julie Neal and her husband Matt of Forestdale, MA; by his six grandchildren: Poppy, Josephina, Jonathan, Marion, Leo and Ian; by his four siblings: Barbara Theriault and her husband Richard; Bradford Kennedy and his wife Linda; David Kennedy and his wife Denise; Justine Moore and her husband Chris, along with his many nieces and nephews.
His wake and memorial services will be held Tuesday, June 1, at Roberts & Sons Funeral Home, 30 South St., Foxboro.
Visiting hours are from 10 a.m. to noon, with a funeral service at noon.
The graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. at Rockhill Cemetery in Foxboro on the same day.
