The Foxboro High softball team built an early lead but the No. 20-seeded Warriors could not hold on as they fell to No. 13 Dedham 8-5 in the preliminary round of the Division 3 South Sectional Tournament last Thursday.

The Warriors took a 5-1 lead in the third inning before Dedham scored seven unanswered runs in the final four innings. Dedham exploded for four runs in the sixth inning to overcome the deficit.

Peyton Feldman, Morgan Sylvestre and Chelsea Gibbons led the Foxboro offense with two hits each. The Warriors totaled 10 hits.

“We played well, but Dedham won it,” Foxboro coach Mark Maguire said.

Foxboro plated three runs in the first inning and added another pair of runs in the third inning. The Marauders came back with two runs in the bottom of the third inning and another run in the fifth.

Foxboro left a pair of runners stranded in the fifth inning. Sophomore Nicole Theriault stroked a one-out single in the sixth inning, but the Warriors were retired in order in the seventh inning.

Foxboro starting pitcher Cam Willis Willis allowed Dedham seven hits and tallied three strikeouts.

Sylvestre and Gibbons both had RBI singles in the first inning for Foxboro. In the third inning, doubles by Gibbons and Willis produced one run, while a fielder’s choice scored the Warriors’ fifth run.

Foxboro concluded its season 8-13.
