NORTH ATTLEBORO - Police traced a suspect in the theft of five iPads worth almost $4,000 from Walmart through his gym T-shirt that read "Staff" on the back.
Suspect Jessie Ocasio, 36, of New London, Conn., was wearing a Planet Fitness T-shirt at the time he allegedly walked out of Walmart with the iPads on June 24, according to police.
Police say he is a former employee of a Planet Fitness in Pawtucket and was allegedly seen on store security video stealing the iPads. Another man wore a Walmart smock and acted as look-out, according to police.
The theft remains under investigation by Detective Daniel Arrighi, who tracked down Ocasio and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
New London police arrested the suspect, and he was brought to Attleboro District Court Monday from Connecticut by Arrighi and Patrolman Thomas Vigorito.
Ocasio allegedly confessed to stealing the iPads and selling them on the street for $150 each to feed his heroin habit, according to police.
He was ordered held in jail without bail because he is also wanted on a shoplifting warrant in Chicopee District Court.
He faces charges in Attleboro District Court of larceny and defacing property. Bail was set at $2,500 cash on those charges.
He is due back in court on Sept. 7.
