REHOBOTH — Two girls from Dighton, Megan Kelley and Peyton Maccarone, are head of the Class of 2018 at Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School.
Kelley, 17, daughter of John and Paige Kelley, is valedictorian, and Maccarone, 17, daughter of Michael and Melissa Maccarone, is salutatorian.
Kelley will be attending Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh to study business analytics and statistics. She wants to work in data science for a big technology company.
Maccarone plans to major in cell and developmental biology on a pre-med track at the University of Rochester. She hopes to pursue a career in oncology.
Both are active in sports and clubs at D-R. Kelley is on the field hockey team, president of the Latin club, and a member of DECA. Maccarone is captain of the soccer and lacrosse teams, vice president of the student body and a member of the Best Buddies program.
Kelley and Maccarone are also active in the community. Maccarone volunteers at a cancer center in Fairhaven and Kelley teaches CCD classes at her church.
Kelley and Maccarone will miss all their friends and teachers, but they are looking forward to life after graduation.
“I’m looking forward to learning to live on my own and be independent and studying things I’m really interested in,” Kelley said.
“I’m looking forward to being exposed to the world, meeting new people, learning about new cultures and being able to impact people’s lives through medicine,” Maccarone said.
Graduation ceremonies will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, June 1, on the football field (gymnasium if it rains) at D-R High School.
