REHOBOTH — A reported transformer fire at a power substation and wires down apparently led to nearly 700 customers here and in Seekonk without electricity Wednesday night.

A total of 595 of Rehoboth’s 4,999 National Grid customers were reported without power about 10:30 p.m., with an estimated time by the utility for restoration early this morning.

In addition, according to National Grid, 88 customers in Seekonk were reported without power.

Attleboro firefighters helped local firefighters respond to several emergency calls, including smoke in a house at 269 Rocky Hill Road that may have been related to the power failure.
