NORFOLK — A young woman was killed Friday morning when she was hit by a commuter rail train near the downtown train depot.
Authorities did not immediately identify the victim, but said she was a 21-year-old woman from France working as an au pair in Norfolk.
Transit police along with Norfolk fire department and EMT personnel responded to scene about 10:25 a.m. She was pronounced dead as a result of her injuries, police said.
“It’s just incredibly sad,” Norfolk Deputy Police Chief Jon Carroll said.
Transit police detectives and the Norfolk County District attorney’s office are investigating.
Train service on the Franklin line was delayed by up to 30 minutes Friday afternoon as result of the incident.
WCVB Channel 5 in Boston reported that witnesses said the woman stepped in front of the train.
