WRENTHAM — The King Philip Regional High girls’ tennis team took a major step toward taking outright possession of the Kelley-Rex Division title of the Hockomock League.

The Warriors (12-3, 11-3) created a two-match lead atop the division after carving out a 4-1 victory over second-place Taunton High Thursday.

Sophomore Mia Valenica avenged an early season loss to her Panther foe, dominating the No. 3 singles match for a 6-3, 6-2 verdict. “Her game has gotten so much better,” KP coach Bob Goldberg said of Valencia improvement over the past month. The Warriors travel to Mansfield Friday.

  • Attleboro (4-9) moved within a win of matching last season’s win total in beating Franklin 4-1 in a Hockomock League match. Ella Lynch-Bartek and Bri Aronne won straight matches at the No. 1 and 2 singles spots for the Bombardiers, who host Franklin Monday.
  • Foxboro (15-1) received straight set wins from Pam Nelson and Julia Muise in the No. 1 and 2 singles spots in a 4-1 Hockomock League victory over Milford. Nelson posted a shutout, while Muise lost just two games. The Warriors take on Sharon Friday.
  • Olivia McConnell posted a straight set shutout at No. 2 singles, while Christina Phillips lost just two games her No. 1 singles win as Norton (7-8) downed Norwood 5-0 in a Tri-Valley League match. The Lancers host West Bridgewater Monday.
  • Macy Anderson posted a shutout at No. 3 singles while Charlotte Drainville lost just one game at No. 1 singles and Bella Pezzulli lost just two games at No. 2 singles as Seekonk (5-7) closed in on a postseason berth with a 5-0 SCC victory over Case.
