SEEKONK — The Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High boys spring track team flexed its muscles on the track Saturday to come away with the team title in the South Coast Conference Championship Track and Field Meet at Seekonk High School.

The Falcons received first-place finishes from Kyle Cappiello in the 100, Alex Coss in the 200 and Kyle Renden in the two-mile along with wins from its 4x100 and 4x800 relay squads to collect 141 points, beating out second-place host Seekonk (120).

“It was completely a team victory,” said D-R coach Dave Moura “We were down by four points going into the two-mile, and Kyle Renden’s win there gave us the lead for a six-point swing.”

The Falcons’ 4x100 and 4x800 relay squads made sure they didn’t lose the team lead as D-R’s 4x100 foursome of Matt Goss, Matt McDonald, Kyle Cappiello and Dennis Montiero won in 45.1 with the 4x800 quartet of Billy Davis, Arszef Sylha, Peter Marcille and Dean Bullock placing first in 9:02.

“We knew Seekonk was loaded,” Moura said. “Their strength is in their distance and middle distance. We didn’t perform in the field as strongly as we had hoped so we were behind the eight ball as we went out to the track.”

Cappiello also turned in a solid showing in the 100, winning in 11.2 after running a 10.8 in the first preliminary run for one of fastest times in the state this spring.

D-R is now off until next Sunday’s Division 3 state championship meet at Durfee.

The Seekonk boys were boosted by several strong performances in the field events to finish just behind Dighton-Rehoboth.

Zach Garabian and Zach DuBois finished one-two in the shot put and the discus for the Warriors. Garabian threw the shot 43-093/4 and the discus 141-8 while DuBois recorded distances of 41-91/4 in the shot and 126-6 in the discus. Chris Roy finished in sixth for the Warriors with a discus throw of 109-3.

Seekonk boys coach Matt McCartin was especially pleased with Garabian’s effort.

“It was big and for him to come in first in the discus and shot put for the last time on his home turf was great,” said McCartin. “I’m really proud of him.”

Seekonk’s Cam Salit ran 2:02.41 to claim gold in the 800 while his brother, Matt, won the mile in 4:38.44. The Warriors’ 4x400 and 4x800 relay squads earned medals with the 4x400 team composed of Andrew Feithery, Nate Brown, Tim Salit and Cam Salit earning gold in 3:36.9. The 4x800 team was awarded silver in 9:27.3.

Seekonk will have a week of practice and return to the track next Sunday at the Division 3 state championship meet.

The Seekonk girls’ squad also placed second in the girls’ South Coast Conference Championship Track and Field Meet, which was won by Old Rochester Regional with 156 points.

Seekonk finished with 114 points behind double-winner Nicole Mowry, who won both the 200 in 26.26 and the 100 in 13.16. Other first-place finishers for the Warriors were Erin Langlors in the shot put (31-7) and Katie Garibian in the discus (94-4).

The Warriors’ 4x800 relay squad placed second.

Dighton-Rehoboth came in third in the girls’ meet with 94 points. The Falcons were led by first-place showings from Julia Campezato in the javelin (116-5), Sarah Guimond in the 200 (1:01.87) and Mia Rogers in the mile (5:32.44).
